Why does your PC crash?

Fatal error: the system has become unstable or is busy," it says. "Enter to return to Windows or press Control-Alt-Delete to restart your computer. If you do this you will lose any unsaved information in all open applications."

You have just been struck by the Blue Screen of Death. Anyone who uses Mcft Windows will be familiar with this. What can you do? More importantly, how can you prevent it happening?
1 Hardware conflict

The number one reason why Windows crashes is hardware conflict. Each hardware device communicates to other devices through an interrupt request channel (IRQ). These are supposed to be unique for each device.

For example, a printer usually connects internally on IRQ 7. The keyboard usually uses IRQ 1 and the floppy disk drive IRQ 6. Each device will try to hog a single IRQ for itself.

If there are a lot of devices, or if they are not installed properly, two of them may end up sharing the same IRQ number. When the user tries to use both devices at the same time, a crash can happen. The way to check if your computer has a hardware conflict is through the following route:

* Start-Settings-Control Panel-System-Device Manager.

Often if a device has a problem a yellow '!' appears next to its description in the Device Manager. Highlight Computer (in the Device Manager) and press Properties to see the IRQ numbers used by your computer. If the IRQ number appears twice, two devices may be using it.

Sometimes a device might share an IRQ with something described as 'IRQ holder for PCI steering'. This can be ignored. The best way to fix this problem is to remove the problem device and reinstall it.

Sometimes you may have to find more recent drivers on the internet to make the device function properly. A good resource is www.driverguide.com. If the device is a soundcard, or a modem, it can often be fixed by moving it to a different slot on the motherboard (be careful about opening your computer, as you may void the warranty).

When working inside a computer you should switch it off, unplug the mains lead and touch an unpainted metal surface to discharge any static electricity.

To be fair to Mcft, the problem with IRQ numbers is not of its making. It is a legacy problem going back to the first PC designs using the IBM 8086 chip. Initially there were only eight IRQs. Today there are 16 IRQs in a PC. It is easy to run out of them. There are plans to increase the number of IRQs in future designs.

2 Bad Ram

Ram (random-access memory) problems might bring on the blue screen of death with a message saying Fatal Exception Error. A fatal error indicates a serious hardware problem. Sometimes it may mean a part is damaged and will need replacing.

But a fatal error caused by Ram might be caused by a mismatch of chips. For example, mixing 70-nanosecond (70ns) Ram with 60ns Ram will usually force the computer to run all the Ram at the slower speed. This will often crash the machine if the Ram is overworked.

One way around this problem is to enter the BIOS settings and increase the wait state of the Ram. This can make it more stable. Another way to troubleshoot a suspected Ram problem is to rearrange the Ram chips on the motherboard, or take some of them out. Then try to repeat the circumstances that caused the crash. When handling Ram try not to touch the gold connections, as they can be easily damaged.

Parity error messages also refer to Ram. Modern Ram chips are either parity (ECC) or non parity (non-ECC). It is best not to mix the two types, as this can be a cause of trouble.

EMM386 error messages refer to memory problems but may not be connected to bad Ram. This may be due to free memory problems often linked to old Dos-based programmes.

3 BIOS settings

Every motherboard is supplied with a range of chipset settings that are decided in the factory. A common way to access these settings is to press the F2 or delete button during the first few seconds of a boot-up.

Once inside the BIOS, great care should be taken. It is a good idea to write down on a piece of paper all the settings that appear on the screen. That way, if you change something and the computer becomes more unstable, you will know what settings to revert to.

A common BIOS error concerns the CAS latency. This refers to the Ram. Older EDO (extended data out) Ram has a CAS latency of 3. Newer SDRam has a CAS latency of 2. Setting the wrong figure can cause the Ram to lock up and freeze the computer's display.

Mcft Windows is better at allocating IRQ numbers than any BIOS. If possible set the IRQ numbers to Auto in the BIOS. This will allow Windows to allocate the IRQ numbers (make sure the BIOS setting for Plug and Play OS is switched to 'yes' to allow Windows to do this.).

4 Hard disk drives

After a few weeks, the information on a hard disk drive starts to become piecemeal or fragmented. It is a good idea to defragment the hard disk every week or so, to prevent the disk from causing a screen freeze. Go to

* Start-Programs-Accessories-System Tools-Disk Defragmenter

This will start the procedure. You will be unable to write data to the hard drive (to save it) while the disk is defragmenting, so it is a good idea to schedule the procedure for a period of inactivity using the Task Scheduler.

The Task Scheduler should be one of the small icons on the bottom right of the Windows opening page (the desktop).

Some lockups and screen freezes caused by hard disk problems can be solved by reducing the read-ahead optimisation. This can be adjusted by going to

* Start-Settings-Control Panel-System Icon-Performance-File System-Hard Disk.

Hard disks will slow down and crash if they are too full. Do some housekeeping on your hard drive every few months and free some space on it. Open the Windows folder on the C drive and find the Temporary Internet Files folder. Deleting the contents (not the folder) can free a lot of space.

Empty the Recycle Bin every week to free more space. Hard disk drives should be scanned every week for errors or bad sectors. Go to

Otherwise assign the Task Scheduler to perform this operation at night when the computer is not in use.

5 Fatal OE exceptions and VXD errors

Fatal OE exception errors and VXD errors are often caused by video card problems.

These can often be resolved easily by reducing the resolution of the video display. Go to

* Start-Settings-Control Panel-Display-Settings

Here you should slide the screen area bar to the left. Take a look at the colour settings on the left of that window. For most desktops, high colour 16-bit depth is adequate.

If the screen freezes or you experience system lockups it might be due to the video card. Make sure it does not have a hardware conflict. Go to

* Start-Settings-Control Panel-System-Device Manager

Here, select the + beside Display Adapter. A line of text describing your video card should appear. Select it (make it blue) and press properties. Then select Resources and select each line in the window. Look for a message that says No Conflicts.

If you have video card hardware conflict, you will see it here. Be careful at this point and make a note of everything you do in case you make things worse.

The way to resolve a hardware conflict is to uncheck the Use Automatic Settings box and hit the Change Settings button. You are searching for a setting that will display a No Conflicts message.

Another useful way to resolve video problems is to go to

* Start-Settings-Control Panel-System-Performance-Graphics

Here you should move the Hardware Acceleration slider to the left. As ever, the most common cause of problems relating to graphics cards is old or faulty drivers (a driver is a small piece of software used by a computer to communicate with a device).

Look up your video card's manufacturer on the internet and search for the most recent drivers for it.

6 Viruses

Often the first sign of a virus infection is instability. Some viruses erase the boot sector of a hard drive, making it impossible to start. This is why it is a good idea to create a Windows start-up disk. Go to

* Start-Settings-Control Panel-Add/Remove Programs

Here, look for the Start Up Disk tab. Virus protection requires constant vigilance.

A virus scanner requires a list of virus signatures in order to be able to identify viruses. These signatures are stored in a DAT file. DAT files should be updated weekly from the website of your antivirus software manufacturer.

An excellent antivirus programme is McAfee VirusScan by Network Associates ( www.nai.com). Another is Norton AntiVirus 2000, made by Symantec ( www.symantec.com).

7 Printers

The action of sending a document to print creates a bigger file, often called a postscript file.

Printers have only a small amount of memory, called a buffer. This can be easily overloaded. Printing a document also uses a considerable amount of CPU power. This will also slow down the computer's performance.

If the printer is trying to print unusual characters, these might not be recognised, and can crash the computer. Sometimes printers will not recover from a crash because of confusion in the buffer. A good way to clear the buffer is to unplug the printer for ten seconds. Booting up from a powerless state, also called a cold boot, will restore the printer's default settings and you may be able to carry on.

8 Software

A common cause of computer crash is faulty or badly-installed software. Often the problem can be cured by uninstalling the software and then reinstalling it. Use Norton Uninstall or Uninstall Shield to remove an application from your system properly. This will also remove references to the programme in the System Registry and leaves the way clear for a completely fresh copy.

The System Registry can be corrupted by old references to obsolete software that you thought was uninstalled. Use Reg Cleaner by Jouni Vuorio to clean up the System Registry and remove obsolete entries. It works on Windows 95, Windows 98, Windows 98 SE (Second Edition), Windows Millennium Edition (ME), NT4 and Windows 2000.

Read the instructions and use it carefully so you don't do permanent damage to the Registry. If the Registry is damaged you will have to reinstall your operating system. Reg Cleaner can be obtained from www.jv16.org

Often a Windows problem can be resolved by entering Safe Mode. This can be done during start-up. When you see the message "Starting Windows" press F4. This should take you into Safe Mode.

Safe Mode loads a minimum of drivers. It allows you to find and fix problems that prevent Windows from loading properly.

Sometimes installing Windows is difficult because of unsuitable BIOS settings. If you keep getting SUWIN error messages (Windows setup) during the Windows installation, then try entering the BIOS and disabling the CPU internal cache. Try to disable the Level 2 (L2) cache if that doesn't work.

Remember to restore all the BIOS settings back to their former settings following installation.

9 Overheating

Central processing units (CPUs) are usually equipped with fans to keep them cool. If the fan fails or if the CPU gets old it may start to overheat and generate a particular kind of error called a kernel error. This is a common problem in chips that have been overclocked to operate at higher speeds than they are supposed to.

One remedy is to get a bigger better fan and install it on top of the CPU. Specialist cooling fans/heatsinks are available from www.computernerd.com or www.coolit.com

CPU problems can often be fixed by disabling the CPU internal cache in the BIOS. This will make the machine run more slowly, but it should also be more stable.

10 Power supply problems

With all the new construction going on around the country the steady supply of electricity has become disrupted. A power surge or spike can crash a computer as easily as a power cut.

If this has become a nuisance for you then consider buying a uninterrupted power supply (UPS). This will give you a clean power supply when there is electricity, and it will give you a few minutes to perform a controlled shutdown in case of a power cut.

It is a good investment if your data are critical, because a power cut will cause any unsaved data to be lost.

Apple ready to provide Windows 7 support

Apple has pledged to support Windows 7 by the end of the year, for those Apple computer users that want to dual install the latest OS's from both Apple and Microsoft on their Macs.

Win 7support for Macs should be here by the end of the year, for those Apple waverers that like to have the option to dabble on both sides of the fence.

"Apple will support Microsoft Windows 7 (Home Premium, Professional, and Ultimate) with Boot Camp in Mac OS X Snow Leopard before the end of the year. This support will require a software update to Boot Camp," the company posted on its website.

How to make a chipmunks song

So it was a viral video making some months ago when Alvin and the Chipmunks was released. Many people changed songs into Chipmunks version and posted it in YouTube and what not. Today, I am going to teach you how to do that using just a couple of free softwares (Yes free).

First, download Audacity Installer. Audacity® is free, open source software for recording and editing sounds, and you can learn a lot of stuff just while playing with the softare and install the software in your computer.
After done installing, run the software and then go to Project>Import Audio and select the song you want to chipmunknize.
It will take a couple of seconds to import the song. After that, press CTRL+A, which selects the whole song. Then go to Effect>Change Pitch. On the dialogue box, where it asks for Percentage change, make sure its 115.5. Preview it and if you like it, Press OK and you are DONE.

You can listen to song as much as you like, but to export the song in .mp3 format , it takes a couple of extra steps.

Go to .mp3 encoder downloader. Click on Lame v3.98.3 for Audacity on Windows and download and install the program.
After its done installing, go back to Audacity. Click on File>Export As Mp3 and select your destination and select OK.

And you are DONE with everything. You can play around more with Audacity to find new functions and features and use and abuse them. After all its a free software.

How to make a custom track for Tap-Tap

This is with TapTap Classic. I havent tried with TTR2 or TTDance or others.

Almost every body has Tap Tap in their Iphone or Ipod Touch. It is just like the Rock Band in PS3/XBox360 but in smaller version. But the only bad thing about the app is you cannot download the song of your choice from their server, but after reading this guide, you can.
Things you need:
1)jailbroken (yes! it has to be jailbroken) IpodTouch/Iphone with OpenSSH enabled.
2)Wireless Internet
3)Little Patience

Lets Start...

First, download the Tap Tap maker from this site. Install the software and then open it.
Go to File>Import Song and select the song of your choice.
After your song starts playing, click on "RECORD" button. Now the song starts again and "Record" button changes to "Recording". As the song plays, press LEFT, DOWN and RIGHT the same way you want it to appear in the game.
After you are done with the song, save the song by clicking File>"Save Tap/M4A" and select your destination.

You are done with making your track, now transferring it to Ipod.
You are going to use OpenSSH to transfer the files from your computer to Ipod. If you already have OpenSSH enabled on your Iphone, go straight down. And if you havent enabled OpenSSH, read this guide.

Go to your Cydia and then search for OPENSSH and then install it on your iPod.
Download the client for your Computer from here. Select WinSCP 4.2.3 Beta (Installation Package).This is WinSCP and it helps you with SSH connnection with your iPhone.
Install the WinSCP and run it(there is an icon on your desktop).
First time you run the program, you will get WinSCP login dialogue box. Enter the following data:
Host name is your Iphone/Ipod Touch's local ip-address. To find your Ip-address, go to your Iphone's Settings>WiFi> Click on the blue arrow next to your network and the numbers that is next to "Ip Adress" is your hostname.
User name is root and password is alpine.
Click on Login. make sure your iPhone in your homescreen and wait about 10-20 seconds(depending upon the speed).

Now to transfer the track into iphone.

Navigate to "/private/var/mobile/Applications". You will see some really weird looking file names like (414F8448-6F1D-430C-A0A7-203E42E557BD). You need to look into every folder in order to find ttrsdk.app. The filename above is the one that is in my ipod, so you might try that one too. If you want to save some time, i would suggest un-sync all the apps from iTunes9.0 except "Tap Tap" and locate the filename. Make sure you bookmark the address if you might want to visit the folder again and make some changes.
After you find your ttrsdk.app, go to Tracks folder and copy the M4A file in your Music folder, tap file in your Taps folder. If you dont find it, try making the filenames of .m4a &.tap files shorter. And add (extreme or hard or easy) at the end of the file name of your .tap file. For example, if your file is "MySong.tap", change it to "MySong (easy).tap" or your track wont be visible in TapTap.

And you are DONE. PHEW!!!! Open up your TapTap, select your song and play.

Now a days, almost every one gets spam and scams on their emails. It is always good to stay protected against scammers by knowing where the email is coming from, in order to prevent a facepalm. About couple of months ago, when my sister was looking to buy a new car, she got a email from a seller saying he is in UK at the moment and he was willing to sell his Honda Accord, '07 for $7000. She asked me to check where his email was coming from. I checked it and found it was from Mountain View, CA. You can use the following methodes go check where the email is coming from. I am only going to cover 3 major email services: Gmail,Yahoo Mail andHotmail this time.

First stop...

Go to ip-adress.com's email sender tracker service. You will use it while tracing the email.

Gmail

Log into your account and then select your message that you want to trace.
On your screen's right side, click on "New Window". You will get the same email on new window, with a couple of options.
On the new window, next to "Reply", click the drop down arrow and click on "Show Original."
Copy the whole document and paste it at ip-adress.com's email tracker and click "Trace Email Sender" button on the bottom of the page.

Yahoo Mail (using new newer version)

Log in and select the message you want to trace.
Click on the drop down menu next to "Compact Header" and select "Full Header"
Copy the whole document and paste it at ip-adress.com's email tracker and click "Trace Email Sender" button on the bottom of the page.

Hotmail

Log into your account, and RIGHT CLICK on the message you want to trace.
Click on "View Message Source". The whole message will come up in a new window, but this time, you cannot copy the message and use ip-adress.com's tracker.
So lookout for keyword like "Received: from xxxxxxxxxx" around 5th or 6th line. Copy only the ip-adress(something like xxx.xx.xx.xx) and paste it at Ip-adress.com's IP Tracker.

If all things are done correctly, you will get the location on a map.

Password protect a folder.

I will not be responsible if you lose your files or folders by using this method.
There are various softwares on the market, using which you can completly password protect your folder and important stuffs inside it. But some of them might be malicious or too expensive for a regular person to dowload, so here is a tutorial on how to password protect a folder using VBS scripting(dont worry, you wont have to install anything if you already have windows).

First off, start a new page on notepad and paste the following code on it:

Now change "myfolder" (line 3, 5, 16 and 25) into the name of your folder and change "password"(line 23) into your desired password.
Now go to File>Save As and locate where your folder is located.
Save the file as "lock.bat" and save and exit.
If you double click the file the first time, it will ask you "if you want to lock the folder or not?" Press Y if you want to, N if you dont want to.
Now your folder has disappeared, which means now it is protected from intruders. To restore the folder, double click your "lock.bat" and it will ask for your password. If you enter wrong password twice, it will automatically close the dialogue box and you will have to open it again.

Please remember to hide your "lock.bat" from places where other people can easily find it. Remember the location of the folder that you locked becuase you need to keep "lock.bat" back in that place (if you moved from original locaiton) to restore the folder.

BEFORE WE START: THESE APPS WORK ON BOTH IPHONE AND IPOD-TOUCH AND DOESNT HAVE TO BE JAILBROKEN.

Iphone is full of endless possibilities, you just need the correct resources to make use of them. Using some of the 3rd party apps available on ITunes, you can have total control of a PC(when the user is logged in) and today, I am going to talk about two apps from Itunes.

What do download?
I T a p is a app that turns your IPhone into a wireless keyboard/mouse for your PC or MAC. You can download the paid Iphone app here for $3.99 or the free lite version here

Remainder: lite version includes only volume control and none of the mouspad/keyboard. Even with the paid version, you cannot see the computer screen on iPhone.

How to setup?
After you download the apps on iphone, download the server client on your PC. Run and complete the installer, which will give you "iTap Receiver" program on your desktop or your Start Menu. To pair your computer with iPhone,open the app on iPhone and start the program on your computer. You should see your iPhone's name under "Devices running compatible version." Select your device and click on "Pair on Selected Device" If done successfully, you can use iPhone Screen as your Mouse Pad and also as a keyboard. Cool eh??

Mocha VNC:Another app from iTunes store which gives you absolute control of a PC is Mocha VNC which provides access to a VNC Server. Using your iPhone, you can connect to a Windows PC or Mac OS X and see the files, programs, and resources exactly as you would if you were sitting at your desk, just on a smaller screen.

Just before you are done with the installation of VNC client, you will get "VNC Server Properties" Dialogue box. Make sure you configure your password in the first page and then click OK on the dialogue box and finish the installation. After you are done with your installation, search for "VNC Server (User Mode)" on your computer and open it. It will display a new icon on your taskbar. Right click on it and select "Status". Click on "Test" where it says "Details and Address". The first time you click start, it will say connection failed because you haven't port forwarded your router. Click here for more info on port forwarding.
For this software to run properly, you need to port forward your router into 5900 for Starting Port and 5900 in Ending Port. After port forwarding the router, click on Test>Start again and it should say "Connection Test Successful" and it will give you a IP-address which looks like (24.176.42.534)on which you need to connect. Dont close the dialogue box yet because you will use that ip-address on Mocha VNC that you downloaded on iPhone.

Open Mocha VNC on iphone and go to Menu>Edit Connections and select a row. Now put down the ip-address that you got earlier from testing the server. Put down 5900 on VNC Server Port and your password should be the one that you configured when you installed the software for the first. Give it a name just for yourself and then hit "Connect" on upper right side. It should say connecting to "[your ip address] and then VNC Negotiation and you will have your computer screen on your iphone. Now you can control the computer since you have the screen, type around or control volume using ITap.

How to make a icon?

Go ahead and fireup MSPaint. How to start paint?
Open up the picture that you want to convert into icon.
Go to File>"Save As" and select the place where you want to save it.
On the filename section, change the file name into 'icon.ico' and "Save as type" into '24-bit Bitmap'
Press Save and you are done.
If you are on Vista, you might have to rename the file again into 'icon.ico' again. Watch the video.

Some of the websites do not appreciate you using proxy servers while surfing them, so check their privacy policy, before surfing the internet.

How to make an INVISIBLE icon on your computer.

This tutorial teaches you how to make an invisible icon on your computer.

Go to the Desktop or any folders in your computer
Right click on a empty space and select "NEW">"FOLDER". It will create a new folder.
Now right click on the new folder and select "PROPERTIES"
Go to "CUSTOMIZE" tab and then select "CHANGE ICON"
You will now get a bunch of icons. If you slide towards right(6 or 7 clicks) then you will see some empty space. Select one of those icons. and then press "OK" and "OK" again on the other window.
The icon is invisible, but now to hide the words on it, right click on it, and select "RENAME" and then type in ALT255 and then press ENTER.

And you are done.

You can drag drag your mouse around to see the invisible icon and you can rename the folder by re-doing last step.

FAQ

1) The name is not still invisible??

Right below the position bar, you will see "Download" link> Click it and you will be taken to Google Checkout window. We all know how cool gadgets can take away time when you are bored. Yet today, I present another cool way to have fun with webcams and Iphone/Ipod touch. This is more fun in Ipod Touch since it doesnt have a camera and Iphone already has a camera and other camera apps in app store .
First off, tools and softwares required:

Wireless internet [a must]
Ipod Touch/ Iphone
A regular webcam
Jumi App on Ipod Touch/Iphone
Cam Splitter 3.0 [Freeware]
ManyCam 2.4 [Freeware]

To start off, install a app called JumiCam Lite .This app allows you to view your webcam live from your wireless network. Then you can download the client version for the software and install in the computer where your webcam is connected to. You can also visit Jumitech.com for more information on setup of your device.

Next, download a software called CamSplitter 3.0 . It allows you to stream your webcam into two different softwares/programs without blocking the webcam. Install the program on your computer and then run it, but make sure you are not running JumiCam.

Now, download ManyCam 2.4 and install it on your computer. This will allow you to webcast your webcam in various designs and fun ways.

Now is the most important part. You are going to setup the devices to work together to create a fun time.

First start CamSplitter and select your device.
Then start JumiCam and make sure you are seeing webcast on your Ipod.
Then start ManyCams and then go to Sources Tab. Then Click on CamSplitter.

It is recommended to restart your Iphone/Ipod Touch and your computer for proper connection between them.
Now you can see the images on your Ipod and your Computer and from ManyCam, you can change backgrounds or add effects on your face brag among your friends with it. You can also play a video on the computer and then watch the video on ipod but sound cannot be transmitted.:(.. So have fun with this software. How to watch online videos in Iphone/Ipod Touch

All the Iphone/Ipod Touches have the builtin YouTube App, but is that sufficient to see other videos? That app doesn't even have much of the videos available in the desktop version. So here's a neat trick to see videos available in other sites(needs a quicktime player). So the first one is, watch video in Google Videos . In your Iphone/Ipod Touch, open a browser and type in a search query in the google search box. After you get your results, go to your address bar, it will say something like, [www.google.com/search?q=(your video)&ie=UTF-8&oe=UTF-8&client=safari]. Now scroll to the end of your address bar and then delete [safari] part. Then you will get a regular Google Search results. Then click on Videos . You will see your results, but you dont want to click on that says youtube.com because that will take your to native youtube app. So search for the one that says videos.google. you will get a flash player not found picture and then on your right side, you can see "Download Videos Ipod/PSP" Just wait for a couple of seconds, according to your bandwidth speed and then you will have a QuickTime player playing your Video.

Thats just the first part...
The second really helpful site to see videos in Dailymotion . But the thing you need to look after is, when you go to the page, it pops out a dialogue box saying asking if you want to transfer to its mobile site. Just press No/Cancel and proceed. If you accidently pressed YES and want to go to desktop version, clear out your History, Cookies and Cache from your Settings>Safari on Iphone/IpodTouch

Pros: All the videos play in Quicktime player.
Cons: kinda slow and sometimes crashes safari and have to click "cancel" on every page.

Soldier Front W/C 2008 Replay Tapes

I play a MMOFPS with some of my friends during the weekends. Its ijji-Soldier Front and if some of you have been playing that game, its really addicting. During last year's September/October was World Championship of Soldier Front, held in China and people are really desperate to see the replay tapes of the games. I luckily have found the complete replay tapes for the game and have posted detail information on how to use them.

Download the file and extract it anywhere you like to
Then go to your newly extracted folder and then open "Replay Player.exe"
It will give your error message saying Special Force not found, then click OK and then browse your SF folder and reach upto your USF folder
Then a new Black Window opens(not full window. you can see your desktop). Click on Select Replay Folder.
Then browse to the game you wanna see. The replay file will look like 2008November21.rpl . Dont select the .txt file because it has info about the game and peoples' kill and death . and enjoy

Oh! and one more heads up, you cannot use this method to watch the regularly saved replay tape. You must use your Replay Tape Viewer in your computer.

Do you have anyone that you feel uses your computer too much? Well then here is the right solution for you. Make a Fake Virus that automatically shuts down the computer when the user clicks the icon. Lets start.

Right click on your desktop and select NEW>SHORTCUT.
Type shutdown -s -t 10 (10 can be any number in seconds that you want your computer to shutdown in) on the location box and click next.
Change the default name into something else. Lets say Internet Explorer.
You will have a new icon on your desktop saying Internet Explorer.exe

We are done with making the fake part, now the part where we change the design so it looks realistic.

Right click on the new icon that we just made and select PROPERTIES.
On SHORTCUT tab, select CHANGE ICON.
If you get a Pop up, just click OK and move on.
Once you get change Icon dialogue box, select browse
Reach your My computer/ C:/ Program Files/ Internet Explorer and select iexplore.exe
then you will get bunch of other icons. select one of them and click OK.

Your icon image has changed and when you double click on the button, It will say, Computer will shutdown is less than a minute, in vista. and in XP, it shows a dialogue box with the timer on.
After you do all this, you can send it to your friends too. make then download the icon and open it. the computer shutsdown automatically. More information can be found in shutdown command if you go to START>RUN> and type CMD or for vista, just type CMD on the search bar in Start Menu.and type shutdown/? it will show you more options on how to change the display pattern.,
